TV9 HEEGU UNTE – MIRACULOUS TEMPLE THAT GIVES ANYTHING WE PRAY FOR…KABBAL – 3/3……..! A rocky hill with a temple of Goddess KabbaLamma at the top in Bangalore (Rural) district just a few kilometers away from the Kanakapura Bheemeshwari road. The Kabbal Durga gets its name from the Goddess KabbaLamma and fort (Durga is Kannada for fort) present at the top of the hill. Only the ruins can be seen now. There is a village by the same name at the foothill. It also has few climbing routes (two bolted routes) and a numerous opportunity for explorations. Though an easy walkup will take a common man to the top, numerous the climbing routes tempt any climber. Though not much of crowd visits the hill, but surely the temple at the Kabbal village is a crowded place.

Safe Climbing Initiative (SCI)

Eight years ago renowned mountaineer and climber Prof Nicholas Mylander visited India he was here for Yoga but got to know about climbing happening in Sahyadris. He went to many climbing routes had a survey on this and came to a conclusion that climbers over here are risking there life’s while climbing on these routes. The bolts used on these routes did not have any standards; many bolts were in a very pity condition and almost broken due to rusting and aging. He meet climbers in Pune and told them about this and taught them about Safety this resulted in formation of a NGO ‘Safe Climbing Initiative’ which is formed for making safe all the climbing routes in India.

Climbing In The Gunks – Fall 2010 – Easy Routes – Trad Climbing

October in the Gunks – Gelsa, Easy Keyhole, Jackie, Belly Roll, Laurel. Climbing with my son for our 2nd trip to the Gunks. Started climbing last year and took the sharp end of the rope in August at Chickies Rock in PA for a day to learn to lead and then headed to the Gunks the next week and started leading straight away. We are getting stronger and better but the 5.4s sure took us by surprise but feel we can tackle some 5.6 and 5.7′s next time in 2011. We love this place and stay each time at the Trapps Camp on the trail. Its fun to watch my 12 year lead and gain so much confidence in his skills, rope management and overcoming obstacles.
