Climbing Routes animated Map

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

These are some of the climbing routes in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, animated. I shot the photo, added the climbing routes from an existing map, and animated it in Bryce. There are several of these maps focussing on each route, slowly, so a climber might see the route better than existing maps. These was produced for websites, but CD application is just as easy. crazy successive wall climbing on 5 technical routes

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

i thought i’d post something about what i have been doing recently, being a climbing bum and everything… two weeks ago i went to another 12-meter-high outdoor wall climbing gym (far far away) to try out some of the competition routes that i saw a week before during a climbing competition (routes that i thought i could clear if i try hard). on that 12-meter wall, they asked me to climb both top rope and lead on three difficult routes and i was able to clear all, not knowing one route was master’s competition level. i was quite surprised i could do difficult climbs, and that also i could do them without being scared of the 12-meter height while clipping on lead (also my first at that time). this video however is not about those climbs. this video was taken in the humble 7-meter indoor gym where i go to three times a week. before going to the 12-meter wall i did several months of intense training that nobody crazy enough in the gym would do actually. what exactly is my training process? i do successive climbs on very technical routes. although most routes on other higher walls are easy to enough to grab on to, the logic of this training is to go on longer climbs (even on difficult crimp/inner holds) by climbing more and more routes in rapid succession (without even rests, preferably). the tougher and longer i climb, the better i can climb other walls (12-meter and beyond) even on lead rope. for the best technical climbers in our gym, one climb at a time is common…and
